MPO 100 Gb/s - MULTI - FIBER PUSH ON CONNECTOR

 

 

MPO technology (Multi – Fiber Push On Connector) was initiated few years ago by two-fibres MT-RJ connector (Mechanical Transfer Registered Jack). In recent times, 12-fibres MPO connector with thermosetting or thermoplastic MT ferrule (Mechanical Transfer) gains a large popularity.

 

The use of MPO connector with 12-fibres achieves data transfer speed of 10, 40 or even 100 Gbit/s in single fiber connector. Next generations of MPO offers 24, 48 or 72 fibres within one connector. Using multi-fibre connectors guarantee maximum space saving in data communication cabinets and significantly reduces installation time.

 

MPO connectors are designed to work with ribbon cables, which are perfectly for indoor installations. Big elasticity and small size results in easier cable leading in protective spouts. The use of MPO does not require the purchase of still expensive transceivers with MPO port. Using Fun-Outs you can take advantage of multi-fibres connectors without changing the entire system. Example of such a solution is the MPO LGX Q-Fiber module on the one end terminated by MPO, on the other end terminated by 12 1-fibre connectors (generally LC or SC types).

 

MPO Q-Fiber module is placed in the Chassis allowing to lead to 36 connections for 1U Chassis (for 3U chassis up to 144 connections). MPO technology is not yet fully standardized, it is recommended to deliver the whole system from one manufacturer, theb avoid problems with incompatibility of components.

 

 

Important information about MPO connectors/technology:

 

• Connectors in male (with pins) and female (without pins) versions,
• Adapter connects a male with female connector,
• Adapters in “Key up / key down” (more popular) and “Key up / key up” versions,
• Trunk cables are most common in female versions,
• Trunk cables in straight and cross versions,
• Fun-Out modules (e.g. MPO LGX Q-Fiber) are more often used male MPO,
• MTP (US Connec) is compatible with MPO.
